Message From The Sheriff

Happy New Year to Broadwater County! Welcome 2021 and happy trails to 2020.  The past year has definitely shown the citizens of the Broadwater County, the State of Montana and the United States of America, that things can get worse than the year before.

In 2020 we saw mandates that limited movement, religious gatherings, the ability to shop, work, travel or even celebrate birthdays, holidays or graduations.  I am trying to remain optimistic that 2021 will be much different.  I do feel we learned the value of family during 2020 and folks really started to look at the US Constitution through different glasses as they felt their civil rights were being violated.  Again, I am optimistic that will not be the case is 2021.

As we enter this new year, I want the citizens of Broadwater County to know that I am going to continue to work hard at keeping our community, highways and schools safe.  There has been an increase in folks moving to Broadwater County and Montana, which has caused us to re-evaluate how we conduct business.  We have had to revamp our policies not only to get them up to date, but to comply with new standards and of course, the President's Executive Order.  Things take time but we are working diligently to complete these tasks.

Also, in the fall of 2020 we hired two deputies through a federal COPS grant to increase the law enforcement presence and services in southern Broadwater County, specifically the Wheatland area.  They are still in training and hopefully they will be completing the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in the spring or early summer of this year.

And lastly, as I mentioned earlier all of us here at the Office of the Sheriff strive to do our best for the people we serve, the great residents of Broadwater County.  Thank you for all the support over the years and we are hopeful to be able to continue providing the best public safety services we can in the future.
